Review: The Next Level DVD.  What the crap is the Next Level DVD?  Read on and find out..........

So it's winter and everyone wants to do it 'right' this time around. I definitely do, because once I'm done with this whole biking thing, I'm going to get into Mexican wrestling, so pushing weights and strengthening my body are big keys for me and my hopes of someday being a Mexican wrestling star.

With this in mind, I got The Next Level DVD, because it's supposedly the best thing besides getting a personal trainer and if you don't have the right personal trainer, even better than that.

So I got it.



It comes with some 'edgy' looking graphics on the front. I like that. It made me feel stronger just looking at it, and those two guys in it, Jeb and Reese, they look like they can push some weights, maybe not the short one, but that big dude, yeah, that's what I wanna be.



Anyways, so I pop the DVD into my computer, cuz I don't have a DVD player. That could be a bad thing, because not everyone in the world has a DVD player, and what if you don't have a computer? VHS is so 1980, but still...


Look at that exquisite DVD design.


The back cover is well-constructed of paper, covered in plastic. I like it.

The DVD breaks strength training down into four distinct phases, and this ain't no month long plan:

8-10 Weeks of Flexibility and Stability
8 Weeks of Strength
4 Weeks of Power
And an eternity of Maintenance

So basically if you're a biker and it's already December and you haven't got this, get it fast, otherwise you won't finish lifting until like 2010.

Anyways, back to the DVD. The DVD, I won't say movie, cuz it's not much of a movie, is jammed with exercises. It's a veritable encyclopedia, or maybe a Bible if you will. In the first phase along there are 16 different stretches and 35 exercises - craziness.

So what might you expect in the DVD? Stretches, Swiss Ball work, Exercise mat stuff, Dumbbell movements, form running and some weird jumping around actions, there was throwing of large balls, and then there's of course the pushing of big weights, which I'm very good at.

I was overwhelmed after about the third stretch in the third second of this 60 minute DVD, so I had to take a break, practice some wrestling moves, and come back.

When I came back, I felt better, because I had just dropped a midget on his head. I'm tuff.

The stretches were super cool. It's obvious that Reese and Jeb have done their homework and have incorporated a lot more than just touch your toes. The stuff works. I can actually touch my toes now. Of course, there's a lot more to stretching than that, but I'm not smart enough to explain it - that's why you want the DVD - it's smart.

You'll catch on very quickly, if you're trying to follow along, that the DVD isn't designed to follow along and workout with. It's a video guidebook - study first and go do later.



But how in the name of Todd Henriksen do I remember all of these exercises, stretches, movements and coughs? Well those smart guys Jeb and Reese made up these fancy little workout cards - one for each of the workout phases, so you can just put it in your pocket and whenever you feel lost or confused, pull it out and the Word shall guide you.

The DVD covers pretty much anything and everything that could ever be imagined or thought up for the endurance athletes, but probably, since you're reading this, you're a biker, which means you probably want those chicken arms that are completely worthless and will allow me to beat the living hell out of you when I'm a Mexican wrestler. Anyways, since you'll be choosing your plan from the available choices perfect for choosing - you can just NOT do the arm and upper body stuff which is probably more applicable to triathletes and other well-rounded athletes.

Since I am currently still a bike rider, I took special note of the core exercises and the leg work. The core work provided in the DVD is unbelievable. You should get the DVD just to see some of the stunts these two gurus pull on an exercise ball. I tried some of em but I broke my femur, it hurt, but I'm better now.

Hopefully, I don't have to tell you why core work is important - if you don't know, JMurder will get angry if he's not already, which he is, which means that the mere mentioning of this pissed him off two weeks ago.

Leg work? There are more exercises therein than I have fingers, toes, eyes, heads, feet, hands, arms, legs, and stuff.

The DVD is the SHIT. If you've got the motivation and want to take care of business properly this winter - do your business with The Next Level.

So now it is time for El Comino to apply these workouts to his wrestling prep routine.

Being flexible is important, esp. when wrestlers fold you up into a dirtly tamale.  The Next Level DVD provided many ideas on how i can improve my flexibility and thus increase my chances of escaping the dirty tamale.

This particular stretch will aid in my special move, The Flying Burrito.



Mixing The Next Level and moves learned from watching the Karate Kid should really help in my quest to become the finest grappler in all of Mexico.



Balance is important.  The Next Level DVD showed me that having a strong core will help with that and posture.  That is great but what is really important is being able to walk the top rope before delivering the flying burrito.



On The Next Level DVD they do some weird running thing.  I dont know about that stuff.  I think it might be good to build momentum before delivering a swinging salsa kick but I am not too sure about that.  Maybe best for running around the ring in victory.

I need to get my upper body swole.  Some of those wrestlers are pretty jacked up.  Here I am doing some sort of push up.  The Next Level recommended doing some stuff like push ups and what not but i am not yet strong enough for that biz.......so i start small.



Doing a version of a pull up is also good for the upper body and posture.  These kinds of movements should aid me in cage matches where I will need to climb up the steel cage of death before delivering the flying burrito in one cat like motion.




Uh...yeah.  I will just start my lawn mower instead of doing this.  The thing is older than old and starts with the ease of unease.  Nice tan lines dude.



Gotta work on that core.  I really need to be able to take hard shots with bats and chairs and the like in the gut so I need to get tuff.  Maybe I should go watch that new Rocky movie too.



Working with heavy stuff like the stuff I will be throwing in the "Anything Goes Matches" seemed more fitting and specific than lifting weights.  So I focus my time on being tuff with heavy stuff.

Bench Pressing pipe is so hard core.



And dead lifting heavy stuff is so much tuffer than going to the gym.  Plus this is good for top secret training.




Ball excercises are a key part of The Next Level and an important part of any Mexican wrestler wanna-bes routine.

The Next Level DVD costs about 35 bucks and for the amount of info on there I would say it is an awesome buy esp when you compare it to those lame CTS videos.  This is way cooler than Spin to Win.  Plus the creator, Jeb Stewart is a normal bike dork like the rest of us, not some big ass coaching corperation that is just trying to take people's money. 

The DVD is geared more for Triathletes, I think, and less towards Mexican Wrestlers which may be a downside.  If you are a biker only, though, there is still plenty and I mean PLENTY of good info on this DVD.
